The Joy of Crochet and Colour!

If you're reading this it's probably because, like me, you LOVE colour and you LOVE crochet. I wanted to start this little blog to try and share some of my favourite projects, patterns and colour combinations with you.

I have always loved crafting. My mum was a crafter and could turn her hand to all things creative (including crochet of course!). I don't consider myself creative as such, but I enjoy making things, and will try anything!

I first tried crocheting just over ten years ago, and found it quite challenging so threw the towel in very quickly! A couple of years later I tried again and thankfully found some amazing YouTube tutorials and Instagram accounts which helped me get to grips with it... and since then I've been addicted! Crochet is a mindful craft which helps me feel calm. I enjoy simple, repetitive patterns, and mostly make blankets.

My love for using colour grew slowly. I'd always preferred neutral tones like grey or beige, with hints of pink (my FAVOURITE colour), but with crochet I found the more colour I used the happier it made me! It’s no secret that colour affects our mind and our mood, and once I realised this then choosing and using colours that brought me joy became as addictive as the crochet itself.

Added to that the discovery of a community of like-minded crafters on Instagram, who are the kindest and most encouraging group of people I’ve met, albeit virtually, crochet has been my constant through good and bad times, for the best part of a decade.

I still feel like a newbie in the crochet world, so my aim with this blog is to share with you the colours, yarn, and patterns that have brought me joy, and maybe inspire you to try them! I can hopefully also offer some helpful colour and crochet tips along the way.

If you're wondering where the name 'Harriet's Duck' came from... well when I started my Instagram account I picked a few random sayings to use as my handle, and this is the one my kids voted for! (My daughter has a toy duck and it's name is 'Harriet's Duck'). The name has stuck and I don't think I could ever change it!

If you made it this far, well done! Let's get started!
