If you are looking for an easy crochet pattern, with a simple 1 row repeat, then you can't go wrong with a chevron. It's a pattern with a modern feel, which is easily changed up depending on the colours you use, and it can be made in any weight of yarn. I've made several over the years, and they all turned out perfect!
There are a few chevron crochet patterns out there, but this one is my favourite basic pattern. I don't square off my chevron blankets, but you can if you wish. They also look great with or without a border. Chevron blankets work up pretty quickly, and make great gifts. I hope you enjoy making yours!

Method
Chain in multiples of 15, then add 16 more chains.
ROW 1 (RS): DC in the third CH from the hook, and the next 5 CH, *(DC, CH2, DC) in the next CH, DC in next 6 CH, SK 2 CH, DC in next 6 CH; repeat from * across until 8 CH remain, (DC, CH2, DC), DC in the next 5 CH, DC2TOG in the last 2 CH. CH2, turn.
You will see the ‘peaks’ and ‘troughs’ of the chevron pattern start to form on ROW 1 as pictured below:
ROW 2: SK the first ST (at the base of the CH2), 6DC, *(DC, CH2, DC) in next CH2-SP, 6DC, SK 2 ST, 6DC; repeat from * across to last CH2-SP, (DC, CH2, DC) in last CH2-SP, 5DC, DC2TOG. CH2, turn. **Do not work any stitches into the top of the TCH 2 from the previous row**
ROW 3 to end: Continue pattern as ROW 2. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Snuggle up! It's easy right?
How to DC2TOG (Double Crochet 2 Together) at the end of each row:
This stitch allows us to decrease a stitch by crocheting two stitches together. We will work the DC2TOG into the last 2 DC stitches of the row (pictured below). Note we DO NOT work into the TCH2 from previous row.
1) YOH, insert your hook into the first of the two stitches.
2) YOH, pull yarn through stitch. You should have 3 loops on your hook.
3) YOH, pull hook through two loops. You should now have 2 loops on your hook (pictured below).
4) YOH, insert your hook into the next stitch (the last stitch of the row).
5) YOH, pull yarn through stitch. You should have 4 loops on your hook.
6) YOH, pull hook through 2 loops. You should now have 3 loops on your hook (pictured below).
7) YOH, pull through all 3 loops. You have now made a DC2TOG (pictured below).
